Quickie Linkage and Random Question of the Day
Before I have to get in the shower and rush off to the hospital to do my good deeds for the day...
It appears that the Saudis have finally learned that they're playing a significant part in killing the goose that lays the golden eggs and are opening the spigots.
And your random question of the day:
Lennon or McCartney?
(and no, Robbo, I don't mean it in the context of which one would you rather have carnal relations with. Bleh. Get your head out of the gutter.)
1
Madam, you wrong me!
As a matter of fact, I think Lennon was the better song-writer but McCartney is the more talented musician. Since I prefer musick to words, I'll go with the latter.

I'm assuming this is in the 60's? If we are just looking at their body of work until 1980, I'd go with Lennon. McCartney's longevity has allowed him to branch out and really do more creatively. If we are looking at the entire corpus of both their works - then McCartney.
And I wish ill upon McCartney's gold digger.
3
McCartney -- Only because he shares my birthday -- which is today!!!

Hi there,
I am a reader of your blogs and just came across another site I thought I would let you know about. It isn't a blog like yours - actually, best I can tell it is a practical joke of some sort but it struck a chord with me and I decided to share..
The site is http://www.pleaselearntherules.com and it is a site to which people can refer people who either donÂ’t know they are supposed to (or choose not to) hide the email addresses of groups of people in the BCC field of an email.
Regards

Random Question of the Day
So, there's this new trend going about---maxi dresses. And by this I mean long, floaty dresses that are reminiscent of the caftans of yore, but usually look like a cute sundress on top, instead, so you don't look you're hiding a cow under all that fabric. Understandably, pregger chicks think these ideal maternity wear, but normal sized women are wearing them as well. Which leads us to our random question of the day. Ahem.
Do you wear underwear when sporting a maxi dress?
Because, you have to think, with all that fabric, no one's going to know if you aren't.
Random Question of the Day
So, as I might have mentioned once or twice, I'm an auntie twenty-some-odd times over. I've lost count, completely, particularly since my brother re-married last year and gained four step-kids. I think that puts me at twenty-seven nieces and nephews, and one grandniece, but I might be doing the math wrong. Yes, we are your typical Catholic family: everyone has gone forth and started with the "begat" business. While it's nice to have a variety of nieces and nephews, with their various personalities and interests to keep things lively, it presents something of a problem having this many. I can't send everyone a birthday card, otherwise our household GDP would fund Hallmark exclusively, and dammit, if I'm going to give that much money to a company, I'd just as soon have stock, ya dig? There are just too many of them.
But special occasions are another story, and this year we have four---count 'em---grandkids graduating from various institutions. (Perhaps it might be five, but I'm not sure if one nephew is receiving his joint MBA/MS in Mechanical Engineering this semester or not.) As such, I have received three graduation announcements in the mail, and I'm sure the final one will be winging its way here once that particular nephew puts down his pipe long enough to listen to his parents' nagging to send them out. (Sigh. But if you knew this particular nephew, you'd know he's a good kid at heart, but is going through his rebellious phase.) The thing that's killing me, however, is that only one of these kids has actually addressed his announcement. The other two have their mothers' handwriting on the envelopes. They're the ones who have, undoubtedly, ordered the announcements, have put the various pieces of the puzzle into the envelopes, addressed them, and mailed them off---not the children who are graduating, and who, it must be said, are soliciting graduation presents/cash donations with said announcements. I know the kids are all busy, but that's no excuse. It's their event; their achievement;their announcement. And I am proud of them and their achievements, and want to reward them, even if I'm limited by budget constraints to doing it in a smallish-way, but, damnit, it just seems like laziness in the extreme that they would foist this job on their parents. And that is something I won't reward, particularly when I know how hard my sibs work to get their kids through school, and, in one instance, how much they pay to put one daughter through my old high school, where tuition, it must be said, ain't on the cheaper side of things.
So, the random question of the day is this: do I send the kids the cash I would normally send them, or do I send it to their mothers, to go out and buy themselves a round of drinks, because they did the hard work of sending out the announcements?
After all, if the kids can't be bothered to send out the stupid things, how do I know they actually should be congratulated for graduating? While I know their parents didn't do their coursework for them, this act kind of screams that they did. Perhaps I'm congratulating the wrong people?
I'm not even going to go into the fact that I KNOW several of them won't bother sending out a 'thank you' note. That's another story entirely.

Well, you need to remember that we're talking about SENATOR Blutarsky, ya know. Plus, if Bluto wants that damn gopher dead, it's gonna be dead. Even if it takes chemical weapons and napalm. Blowing up the front nine is all well and good, but Bluto's gonna keep at it until he's got a furry little corpse to show Sandy the Head Greenskeeper.

I have to ask: erm, for what purpose? When guys do this kind of question, there is of course only one answer. But surely you weren't thinking of THAT with of of these two?
5
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Oh, Good Lord, no, Robbo. The reason I asked was that the husband and I had seen this commercial for Patron the night before, with two tuxedo'ed gentlemen, outside a church, obviously right before a wedding, arguing furiously. A priest strolls by, they act all friendly, then, when he leaves, they start arguing again. Given the location, you'd think they were arguing about something else. But, right before the end, two little caption boxes then popped up. One said "Caddyshack," and the other said, "Animal House."
That got me thinking. Bluto and Carl are two sides of the same coin: the wackiest of the wacky. Which one was better?

Random Question(s) of the Day: The Holiday Shopping Edition
Why is it that store clerks think they have the right to get all uppity when you choose not to give them your personal information when you're checking out?
I had to purchase some Christmas presents this morning, and when I was checking out, the chick behind the counter started asking me all the same questions an alien would ask right before they probed you anally---you know, if an alien wanted to know what your phone number was, or your email address, mailing address, name of first born child, etc.. I politely said, 'no, thank you' to her inquiries, (even if I'm not sure that was the right reply) and then she proceeded to give me a long lecture about all the "good stuff" I would be missing out on, and if only I gave her my information I could be showered with coupons galore. My eyes narrowed and I said, "I only shop here once a year, if at all, so it's not going to bother me one little bit if I don't get your coupons."
She then proceeded to roll her eyes at me as she handed me my receipts. She didn't say, 'Thanks for your business, come again!" She didn't even wish me a "Happy holiday."
Look here, retailers of the world, if all you're going to offer me is COUPONS, I'm not going to give up my personal information, ya dig? It's MY information. Not yours. I know you think you have some right to it, but you don't. I've actually received FREE LEATHER GOODS for my information. Why on earth would I give up the goods for measly coupons? Are you insane? Furthermore, what is it with people who DO give up their information, thinking they have to? Ahem. YOU DON'T HAVE TO DO IT. Your information is VALUABLE. Until the quid is worth the quo, don't give it up. Duh. For what said retailer will make in selling your information off, you should get something for the deal, and coupons, quite frankly, are not an equal trade. Wise up, eh?
Oh, and don't get me started about buying a "discount card" at Barnes and Noble. IT'S NOT A DISCOUNT IF YOU HAVE TO BUY IT, IS IT? Duh. I repeat, wise up, people and stop being suckered.

Random Question(s) for the Day, Thursday, December 6, 2007
For those of my devoted Cake Eater readers who are bakers in their off hours, are you one of those people who has to make sure every bit of batter/cookie dough is out of the bowl, in a waste-not-want-not fashion? Or do you scrape the sides and, if there's stuff left, let the dishwasher take care of it?
1
For me I try to get every last bit of batter/dough out to use/bake. When I start my cookie baking explosion I do more handwashing versus dishwasher and there isn't much left in the bowl.
However, I don't scrape or rinse everything going into the dishwasher (unless it is dried on and I know the dishwasher won't get it clean itself) - I figure that is why I have a dishwasher.

Let's face it: Shirley Bassey could make ANY song entertaining. Whether it's a tune from Pink, an acapella version of "The Farmer in the Dell" or even a Shatner-esque spoken word reading of the Greater Minneapolis phone book, it's all good when Shirley's involved. I love the fact that she's still out there working. Now if she could just find some competent songwriters to give her enough material for a whole album of new songs, I'd be happy.
You wanna know what "wrong" is? I've stood at the abyss and looked out into "wrong", and I'm here to tell you that this is nowhere NEAR wrong. The Mrs. came home with a "Big & Rich" CD last night, and they did an abominable cover version of AC/DC's "You Shook Me All Night Long".
A remake of a classic AC/DC song.
A twangy country remake.
...the horror......the horror.
Don't get me wrong, I like some country music. Johnny Cash or Hank Senior are always good choices, and old school guys like Dwight Yoakam or Michael Martin Murphy are listenable; HOWEVER, a couple of redneck assclowns remaking a classic song from my adolescence is something I could live without.
Short list of things I'd rather do that hear an effed-up remake of THE classic AC/DC song:
1. Have Dr. Stevie Wonder perform a root canal on me, sans anenthesia.
2. Watch a DVD of "Nebraska Football Fans: They're Really Sane People, it's All the Others Who Are Crazy".
3. Give myself a Coca-Cola enema.
4. Shave my pubes with a cordless weedwacker.
5. Sit down to listen to a Books on Tape version of "Steven King's Sense & Sensibility" read by Bobcat Goldthwait.

Thanks for posting the original clip, Kathy. It's a keeper.
As far as my opinions listed above go, I was under the influence of a Musical Abomination, and my delivery might have been just a WEE bit shaky.
Let's just say that this particular remake (the Big & Rich doing AC/DC one, not the Shirley Bassey/Pink one, which is perfectly acceptable for public consumption) didn't really need to be released to the general public, mmmmmkay?

Oh, come on now -- maybe this client is going through chemo, too. I had a supervisor at my 'spare' job who used to constantly harp on me about my (ahem) casual posting of payments (we had a really stupid kind of handbuilt primitive software system that wouldn't let you go back and change an entry if you inadvertently hit 'cash' instead of 'check') and I'd get so caught up in BS-ing with the clients that I would mix 'em up on occasion -- so when my hair all fell out, I'd whip off my wig and say "Duuuude, see all those empty hair follicles? WTF do you think has been holding in my brains all these years? They're all leaking out! Cut a sick chile some slack already!"
On the other hand, maybe the guy truly IS just a moron -- you DID say entertainment industry, didn't you? We have a new deal in my hospital where they are having RN's doing charting directly into the computer with the idea of (eventual) paperless charts (snort) ... some of the older gals have little to no outside PC experience and it's been quite eye-opening to troubleshoot various hardware issues for them -- actually, the powercord question could've come from any of them! And my IT(ahem again) team has been outsourced to Ross Perot, and they're not much better! Sad.

Mythical Bloggers
Blogging blogging a childlike egocentrism, and with few exceptions, we know little about the bloggers that we read. Of course, most of us claim the what you see is what you get defense, but surely we do hide some facets of our personality from our audience.
My old drinking buddy, Bruce, once detailed his blogging personality for me, which made me ponder things. In person, his demeanor is quite soft-spoken, and as much as he is embarrassed when I mention this, he is quite polite and would do just about anything within his power for a friend. In his writings, however, he appears very abrasive at times. Perhaps the context of his blog facilitates this temporary personality, since his main subject of discussion is political and social commentary.
As to myself, Sadie exists as a mere part of the person behind her. Like every other blogger, this girl behind the girl is multifarious, and trust me, I'm only 25% interesting. Fortunately, most days that percentage shows through in the writing, so what I blog about is indeed truthful, yet amplified. For example - Sadie the Blogger is stunningly beautiful and can do quadratic equations in her head. Sadie the Person Sadie is pretty cute and vaguely remembers quadradic equations, but I can recite several jokes about them. Does that count?
How does your blogging persona differ from your reality-based self?
1
Hm. I swear more in real life, and I think I am much less outgoing in reality than I am in blogland. I often get a kick out of the way people perceive me to look, based upon my blog, but who am I to disappoint them?

"Cyclone Ranger" LMAO. This might have been a few years before your time, Kathy, but there used to be a student who would bring a cape & mask to ISU basketball games and run laps around the balcony walkway of Hilton Coliseum during the second half. The crowd would go nuts cheering for him, and usually a "wave" would form and follow him around Hilton. I'm thinking it was in '87 or '88, and I'm not sure if he was still doing it when you came to ISU, but he DID refer to himself as the "Cyclone Ranger".

I'd say anybody who didn't like Fargo could be deemed normal. The Coen brothers are an acquired taste. Their movies are not mainstream movies with a broad appeal. They are cult movies. I mean you either like movies like Raising Arizona, Fargo, The Big Lebowski and The Ladykillers or you don't. Can't blame you don't like them, but I will check out their next movie.

Have I missed a fashion trend lately wherein it's now cool to wear a little black choker around your neck---with a Masterlock padlock attached to it?
Or is this just what I think it is?
{Insert much blatant winking here}
Because, I have to tell ya, I just saw a lady over at the lake with this little ensemble attached to her neck and it was, well, interesting. She looked like your ordinary suburban housewife out for a run with her kid in a jogging stroller. She even had a matching jogging outfit on. All was well and normal except for the padlock attached to her throat.

The ecosystem, to my knowledge, has nothing to do with technorati. The reason some links don't show up on the ecosystem is because their authors haven't signed up for it. It's the same with technorati...there are plenty of blogs that link me and the ecosystem catches them; technorati catches the rest...or at least they would if I could check it!
